I just read my daughters comment about me complaining about the cold and rain. She said its time to think a trip to Florida or Argentina. Actually it would be a good time to head South. I saw in USA Today that Ft Myers had a high of 86. My inlaws have a place down there and I could be there in a few hours. It is tempting, maybe after Christmas. Air fares have really dropped, but so has fuel costs. Something to think about.
Did you ever notice that when your young you laugh at the Snowbirds who head south in Winter. Now I know why. I used to love snow. Since I was in Education I always had the day off when it snowed enough. That was called a snowday. I even had it down to a science. The heavy snow had to begin after 3 AM because PennDot would send their night shift home and it would take them several hours to get them back in. Always looked forward to hearing the our school number called.
The temp right now is 40 F

Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down....
Except it is Thursday. Rained all day. As of 5 PM EST we have 0.47 inches of rain and the heavy stuff isn't here yet. Rained yesterday too. Time to build a Ark. Except I still don't know "what a cubic" is. Laundy day is here. Not much to write about today.
Did you ever notice that your umbrella is always with you when it isn't raining and when it is rainy it is in the car 1/2 mile away.

Stuff I'll never use again, but just in case I want to keep it
I had alot of stuff before I got married, but somehow I had places for most things and I knew exactly where I put the stuff. Sure I buy duplicates of things I already own, always good to have a spare. I have been throwing out old 5 1/2 inch floppies for days. Thought I had gotten rid of them when I found another pack of them. I think they act like rabbits and duplicate themselves. Some of the programs on the disks were really good 20 years ago. I thought about keeping them when my daughter reminded me that I don't even have a 5 1/2 drive in my computer and these programs would not run on my machine. I thought Windows 3.1 would never be obsolete.
This reminds me that I have 6 Desktop computers and 3 laptops (counting my daughters)(of course that one leaves at the end of Feb when she heads south (Way South)). I hate to throw out a good 486 machine. It has 20 Mb hard drive. Maybe a museum would want it.
I been saying a lot of strange things as I throw out stuff. Like "so that's where that went" or "Gee now I have 2 or 3 of these things".
I may have to buy a new shreader, been using the old one alot.
Midnight has a lot of stuff also, toys we bought him that we knew he would love and play with all the time. He doesn't even look at them. He has his pet beaver (stuffed beaver) and his eagle (also stuffed) and those are his. He does like pens, he steals them and hides them in his hiding place. But he is content to play with a piece of paper or chase a beam of light.
Midnight is starting to acknowledge by daughters presence here, for the first 2 weeks he tried to ignore her. But he has allowed a couple of short petting periods ( 5 secs) so maybe by the time she leaves he will get used to her.
My Wife's sister is looking forward to her new computer. Flamingo Pink is the color is asked for, she should fit in very nicely in a retirement village in Florida. You know where they have Pink Flamingos on their front yard.

The arrival of the blue ray
Sounds like a bad sci fi movie. Actually it is the blueray DVD Player. But it came today, had visits from UPS and Fedex today. I decided to read the instructions before installing the unit. I know I broke with tradition but I thought it might be helpful. They include one page explaining the new corporate name of the Company is now Panasonic. They did this in 24 different language but I now know how to say "Our new name is Panasonic" in 24 language. Not sure if I need that information, maybe I'll keep that sheet in case anyone ever asks me "How do you say Our new name is Panasonic" . Well I read the directions and I have now decided that that was a waste of time.
Did you ever wonder who writes the instruction manual. Do they really speak that language or are they taking a guess of what the words are suppose to be. I have noticed the more expensive the item is, the more easier the english is to read. I got something from the dollar store the other day and I think the instruction sheet packed with the item was for something else.
I keep throwing out more things, but there always seems that another item jumps in to take the place of the item I just threw out. I clear a spot and when I come back, there is something else in that spot. Many junk can duplicate itself.
Well Sinner has a arrived. My annoying daughter just rang the dinner bell (I didn't know we had one) (It must have snuck in when I threw out some trash. Maybe I can sneak up on it and throw it away too.

The continuing voyage of Spaceship Midnight
Another Rainy day coming, Took the std STB to the UPS Store to send back to Verizon. People there were very nice and talkative. Then went to the dollar store for plastic plates for midnight's breakfast. He prefers plastic rather than paper. Slightly spoiled cat. He still wakes up at 5:30 to announce he is desperate for food (like he hasn't eaten in days) I trained him to wake my wife and leave me alone. So anyhow the dollar store didn't have the right kind so I went to Giant and they had it. Stopped by the bank for one of their big calendars, they are not in yet. Hate to change banks just because they haven't got the right calendar.
Threw out a couple hundred 5 1/4 inch floppy disks today. They were heavy. Had some really good programs on them from 1980's and 90's. Wordstar and Lotus - months it took me to learn them and out with the trash. I guess in 20 years, MS Office will be old hat also. I have been sorting thru the mass of 3 1/2 inch disc I have also. I hope to have that done soon. I need an external reader for them. Well Captain Midnight just walked by and gave me a look like he wanted to be petted or he wanted a treat.
My daughter found a cheap fare to Argentina yesterday so we now have a definite date for her departure, not sure how I feel about that, I'm happy that she is going and sad that she is leaving.
Midnight has still not use to her being here. He walks by her and gives her strange looks like "who are you" and why are you here. He is very set in his ways, kinda like me.

The Arrival
Sounds religious. This is not the sermon on the mount. Anyhow, the verizon box for the old (2 years in Jan) high def tv arrived today. Very fast service from verizon. In fact they (verizon) called today and asked if I was happy with the service I got from their agent Natasha (yes I asked if she was married to Boris)(She laughed) on Thursday. I told them very happy (Natasha corrected my bill and ordered the new HD STB (I didn't know what an STB was either)(OK it is Set top box) I mentioned that the top of the LCD HD TV's was too small for the STB to sit on and she said it could go anywhere. I think she knew I was kidding (I Hope). Now that I think of it when I worked as a customer Service person I had people ask really dumb questions too. Anyhow I ramble on.
Hooking the old set only took a couple of hours (mostly looking for the cables from the old set and moving the speakers.
Got it all hooked up and it worked perfectly. Except it looks smaller than it did in the living room. I almost measured it to make sure it was 37 inch set and didn't somehow shrink. I guess the 52 inch set spoils you.
My brother and his wife took off to Gettysburg and that area for a few days. He had to wait until Regis and Kelly host talk ended to leave. He has a thing about Regis.
I have a National Park Senior pass ( you pay 10 dollars once and it is good for life) You have to be 62 to get it. He asked me how I got it. I reminded him of my age which is the same as his (twins tend to be the same age) and that I got it in July.
My wife's sister (I know my sister -in-law) ( but i have 3) has been looking for a new computer. Her old one was over 10 years ago and tends to be slow. Actually a letter sent by US mail is faster than her email.
So when I saw a nice unit I called her about it. It comes in many colors, so I made it up in my favorite color blue. She was happy with the unit until I said it was blue and asled if it could be in pink. I looked and changed it to flamingo pink. I'm sure no one will ever steal that laptop.
She should have it in a few days.
My new Panasonic Blue Ray HD DVD player is on it's way. It is coming FED-EX and is in Orlando, Fl as I type. I researched this unit and is highly rated by CNET so when I saw it on Cyber Monday I ordered it from circuit City. They had the best price.
It should be here Thursday.
Well that was my day.
Maybe tomorrow I'll share the secrets of the Universe

Welcome to my world
OK, first my typing skills are really bad. So if you don't like typos go somewhere else.
Anyhow I thought I would give this a try. A little like the story of the World condensed into small bits that will last forever or at least until the server dies.
First, I'm a retired College professor (you will notice it was not English)
My web site for the college is still up and running (maybe they think I'll change my mind (is there something wrong with the one I have - Mr. Spock (Star Trek)) maybe someday I'll show the address to that (other instructors still refer students to the site.
Second I like being retired. Work is over rated.
Third I miss snowdays (Now everyday is a snow day
Well that's it for now
